“Last summer, we convened this amazing group of folks from our bluegrass and roots music community to create this gospel EP. It’s straight up and down traditional, inspired by a few of our bluegrass heroes like Larry Sparks, Reno & Smiley, and the Stanley Brothers. But it’s not just a bluegrass gospel album, it’s an exercise in community building, intention, and the idea that gospel can be everything it professes to be if you center love and radical acceptance.” -Justin Hiltner
Justin reached out to me with six or seven reference photos and album covers. A few weeks later, Jon and I stood in the 90–95 degree Tennessee heat outside a quaint Southern church as Justin retied his bow tie for the 47th time. The bow tie turned out to be the primary antagonist of an otherwise fantastic, albeit humid, photoshoot.
